Making the Most of Time
“O Time! Time! How it brings forth and devours! And the roaring flood of existence rushes on forever similar, forever changing!” - Thomas Carlyle
With these words, nineteenth century Scottish essayist and philosopher Thomas Carlyle managed to perfectly capture the fleeting nature of human existence. As we move through the days, weeks, months, years and decades of our lives, we begin to notice the acceleration of time. The long and lazy days of childhood suddenly morph into a frenetic rush that leaves us feeling dizzy with our days spinning out of control.
Several years ago, following my mother’s death, I discovered a bag of my childhood toys stuffed away in the back of her closet. These treasures included one of my childhood favorites, “Droopy Dog.” This discovery served as a vivid reminder that, even now, my life is rushing on forever similar, forever changing.
Time marches on! Make the most of the time! Right now! Today!
